Engage with national agencies to improve your climate hazard planning

What is a climate hazard?

The Earth is warming, rainfall patterns are changing, and sea levels are rising. These changes increase the likelihood of heat stress, flooding, extreme cold, and other weather events, which are known as climate hazards.

Why is this important?

With climate change increasingly affecting local weather patterns, educational settings face new challenges in ensuring the safety and preparedness of their communities. Risks such as flooding, extreme heat, and storms can disrupt daily operations and place learners, staff, and resources at risk.

How can national agencies help?

As the impacts of climate change become more pronounced, educational settings must prioritise safety, preparedness, and environmental responsibility. National agencies provide critical support to help settings protect their communities and promote climate resilience through a collaborative approach.

National agencies offer essential knowledge and tools to manage these climate risks effectively. They can help education settings to align their efforts with national climate goals, and educate learners about environmental stewardship and resilience.

By engaging with these agencies, settings can improve the data used to evaluate climate hazards, improving the accuracy of your climate risk assessment process, which will allow settings to better plan and mitigate risks, and improve their climate resilience.
