Audit your Scope 3 data

Scope 3 emissions, which come from activities like procurement, waste, travel and commuting, often represent the largest portion of your overall emissions.

Conducting a preliminary audit of your setting's Scope 3 data is an essential step in identifying which areas to focus on to improve the quality and completeness of your data in preparation for calculating your carbon footprint.

Since Scope 3 emissions cover a broad range of activities, you’ll need a systematic approach to audit the available data. Checking what data you already collect, and how comprehensive and reliable it is, across each Scope 3 area, will help you understand where your data gaps are and which areas need improvement.

Taking this approach helps you gather more precise data, enabling a more accurate carbon footprint calculation for your setting. Without this step, you can underestimate or misrepresent your setting's emissions, which can make it harder to demonstrate the impact of any actions you take on your carbon footprint.
