Set some short, medium and long term climate education and green skills aims
Use the insights from your curriculum audit and green skills review to establish clear goals for integrating climate education and green skills into your formal and informal teaching, learning, extra-curriculars and play.
These should be short, medium, and long term goals. Identify the actions you can take, and who will need to be involved to achieve these aims.
Short term aims might include introducing one-off climate-focused lessons, or focussing on a specific topic such as renewable energy. Medium term aims may involve embedding climate education themes across a number of subjects, play and extra-curricular activities. Long term aims could see green careers and skills fully embedded into the curriculum, or the development of partnerships with external organisations.
This action can be adapted to suit your setting type. Early Years settings will focus on bringing climate education into informal play, while Further Education settings might focus on embedding green skills opportunities into their current careers plan.
Sharing your progress towards these aims will strengthen your setting’s reputation as a leader in climate education and green skills. By involving learners, staff and parents in the process of setting these aims, you can foster engagement and create a shared sense of responsibility for equipping children and young people for climate change.
