Develop your Supply Chain Re-procurement Plan

Create a plan for reviewing and renegotiating contracts with current suppliers, or finding new ones. The aim of a Supply Chain Re-procurement Plan is to ensure your setting can secure sustainable, cost-effective, and reliable suppliers that align with your sustainability objectives, as well as any other objectives you have, such as budget management.

This plan brings together all the preparatory work you have completed as part of your significant supplier review: collecting and analysing their data and sustainability credentials, and working to develop collaborative relationships. Crucially, the plan will help you to address uncooperative suppliers. It should set out a phased replacement approach which will help you to gradually replace non-compliant suppliers for ones that meet your setting’s sustainability criteria.

You can integrate the sustainability targets you have set for your suppliers into your plan. This will create a structured approach to selecting and maintaining suppliers who support your sustainability goals.

While your Supply Chain Re-procurement Plan should prioritise significant suppliers due to their larger impact on your carbon footprint and spend, it's also worth considering other suppliers - even those with lower spend or one-off contracts, where possible.

Developing this plan is important because it will help to reduce your carbon footprint through responsible procurement, while also optimising purchasing, reducing risks, and improving supplier performance.
