Ensure long term resource and budget provisions to support biodiversity progress
As part of your budget and resource planning, understand what funding and grants are available to support your biodiversity aims from sources such as such as your local authority and not for profit organisations.
This could be to cover current projects, to help establish new ones, or for longer term projects that require more money. You may need a proposal covering the rationale and types of projects the budget might cover. This may not be an easy task given wider budget pressures, but any amount of resource is welcome. Speaking to peer networks or external organisations that you already collaborate with may help to develop your case or explore new opportunities.
Doing this will help to keep biodiversity a priority at your setting. Consistent funding ensures that biodiversity projects can be effectively implemented and sustained over time.
Biodiversity initiatives can lead to cost savings. For example, opting not to use pesticides and fertilisers, implementing composting instead of waste removal, and adopting reduced mowing regimes can all contribute to significant savings.
