Identify opportunities to implement green infrastructure

Green infrastructure refers to the use of natural features and sustainable practices to address biodiversity and climate change issues, such as heat stress and flooding. There are many different types of green infrastructure to suit all setting budgets and sizes, including rainwater harvesting, permeable surfaces, planting native trees and gardens, installing planter boxes, and creating green roofs or walls. For example, if your site is particularly at risk of heat stress, you should consider solutions that will help you to reduce the impact.

Assess your site to identify which solutions will work best for your site and budget, using the results of your climate risk assessment and building condition survey. You may choose to seek professional guidance to determine the best solutions and feasibility for your setting.

Green infrastructure makes the school more environmentally friendly, supports biodiversity, and can even lower energy costs by providing natural cooling. It’s a practical way to create a healthier, more sustainable learning environment, and can also improve your site’s aesthetic.
