Develop a long term sustainability plan

Develop a plan for your setting to become more sustainable across different areas, including energy efficiency, decarbonisation, climate adaptation and resilience, biodiversity, green infrastructure, climate education, and green skills. You may also call this your Climate Action Plan.

Use your sustainability vision, strategy and short term sustainability plan to help you identify and prioritise the longer term actions you will need to take to achieve your vision. You can use Sustainability Support for Education to identify the actions you want to take and use these to create your long term sustainability plan. This plan should aim to cover your actions up to 2030.

It is important to understand and estimate the time, resource, responsibilities and budget required to help you achieve your goals, and integrate these to create a fully-costed plan. By taking this approach, you can use the plan to seek buy-in from your governors and trustees, and gain access to the resource and support needed to implement the plan. It will also help you to identify which actions are dependent on others, so that you can better coordinate their delivery and help to avoid delays and additional costs.

This plan should be developed cross-functionally, making sure that anyone responsible for an action is aware and has the skills to implement it successfully. This plan should be monitored and reviewed regularly to assess progress, which you can then share with your setting's community.

Sharing this plan with your community can encourage engagement and improve your setting's perception.
