Analyse your Scope 3 data

Scope 3 emissions, which come from activities like procurement, waste, travel and commuting, often represent the largest portion of your overall emissions.

Analyse your preliminary audit of your setting's Scope 3 data to identify which areas to focus on to improve the quality and completeness of your data, in preparation for calculating your carbon footprint. By breaking down the data you have collected into different categories, you can more easily establish your data gaps. For example, you might break down procurement into stationary supplies, cleaning products and furniture, equipment, and catering.

Since Scope 3 emissions cover a broad range of activities, you’ll need a systematic approach to audit the available data. Checking what data you already collect, and how comprehensive and reliable it is, across each Scope 3 area, will help you understand where your data gaps are and which areas need improvement.

You can then prioritise which Scope 3 areas you want to focus on to gather more precise data. This will enable you to calculate a more accurate carbon footprint for your setting. Without this step, you can underestimate or misrepresent your setting's emissions, which can make it harder to demonstrate the impact of any actions you take on your carbon footprint.

Create a list to save actions and resources, or make a plan for your setting.
