Complete a biodiversity assessment

Identify the variety of plant and animal species in and around your setting. This will enable you to plan actions you can take to improve the biodiversity of your setting, and monitor the success of these actions over time.

Settings with little to no outdoor space can use window observations or create microhabitats. For those with significant green space, the assessment will help to guide landscaping decisions to support native species, improve habitat quality for local wildlife, and identify natural pest control measures.

This step provides an excellent learning opportunity if you involve your children or young people in completing the assessment. It demonstrates strong environmental stewardship, and can enrich their learning experiences. It will increase awareness and respect for nature across your setting and contribute to your local community's ecological sustainability efforts.
