Develop sustainability targets for your suppliers

Set clear environmental and ethical standards that your suppliers must meet. These targets will guide suppliers to reduce their environmental impact, through practices such as lowering carbon emissions, minimising waste, using sustainable materials, and ensuring fair labour practices.

These are specific goals that you expect your existing suppliers to meet over time. It is important that you work with suppliers to agree these targets, as this will increase the likelihood of success.

Crucially, you can then integrate these sustainability targets into your Supply Chain Re-procurement Plan to ensure that sustainability is a core criterion in selecting and evaluating suppliers. This will enhance your supplier evaluation process by systematically assessing each supplier’s sustainability performance, ensuring only those who meet your standards are selected.

Developing sustainability targets for your suppliers is important for building a responsible and resilient supply chain. It not only helps reduce your setting’s environmental impact and carbon footprint but also enhances your reputation, and can create cost savings reflected in lower prices.
