Part of Let’s Go Zero, Climate Action Advisors are independent experts who offer free support for schools, colleges, and nurseries across England.
Develop your sustainability team
Identify what resource is needed for a long term sustainability team that will help to achieve your long term sustainability goals. Assess how many people you would need to ensure that sustainability is fully integrated in your setting, and that progress continues to be made. You will also need to ensure there is dedicated ring-fenced budget for any sustainability roles in the long term. It’s important to consider what skills and knowledge the working group will need, and identify any training or CPD that will be required.
For small settings, it may be sufficient to use job-sharing between current members of staff, or recruit for a part time member of staff to resource your permanent sustainability team. For larger settings, you may want to recruit one or more full time employees dedicated to the role of sustainability, or to upskill several current staff members to share the responsibilities.
This approach demonstrates excellent sustainability leadership and is important to the success of your sustainability goals. It will also help to prevent burn out in your staff members by ensuring that sustainability responsibilities are appropriately resourced.
