Identify significant suppliers

A significant supplier is a vendor or partner that plays a critical role in your operations due to the importance or volume of goods and services they provide. This could be, for example, energy, food, cleaning products, or educational materials. Their performance and sustainability practices will have a significant impact on your setting, both operationally and environmentally.

You will need to decide how you want to define a significant supplier. Typically, a setting will have a small number of significant providers, and a larger number of other suppliers that provide goods or services that are less critical or are easily replaceable. These other suppliers will have less direct influence on your overall operations and sustainability goals.

Completing this action will allow you to focus on those that have the most impact on your setting's carbon footprint. You can then survey these suppliers to collect key data that will help you to more accurately calculate your carbon footprint.
