Identify some long term general waste interventions

Using the results of your waste audit, and the success of any quick wins, identify some longer-term actions that can reduce general waste generation and improve general waste management at your setting.

Long-term interventions lead to systemic changes in how much waste is generated, and how it is disposed of, resulting in sustained reductions in general waste rather than temporary fixes. For example, you may want to phase out single-use plastics at your setting, enhance recycling stations, develop educational and behaviour change campaigns to support your interventions, work with suppliers to reduce bulk packaging, and improve recycling metrics.

This approach will help to create a culture of responsible waste management across staff and learners. It also ensures that you take a continuous improvement approach to managing general waste, creating continued opportunities to reduce your carbon footprint, which will help you to achieve your net zero goals.
