Use tools and processes to improve your data collection

Use digital tools to ensure the data you collect on your carbon and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is accurate and collected on a regular basis, and that your processes to collect and store the data are efficient.

For smaller settings, this can mean creating a spreadsheet to capture all your emissions data in one place, and using free carbon calculators to monitor your carbon footprint over time. Larger, more complex settings, may need to implement a digital data collection platform, access carbon footprinting software, and develop standardised data collection forms.

By continuously improving your emissions data collection, you will improve the accuracy and efficiency of your GHG reporting over time. This will help you to monitor your progress, identify further opportunities for improvement, and inform long term strategic decisions, ultimately leading to more effective and impactful sustainability initiatives.

Standardising your processes and investing in digital tools can create significant time savings. It is important to document your processes to make sure you can carry on using them in the event of staff transfer.
