Increase the amount of native plants and trees at your setting

Native plants and trees are naturally found in your local ecosystem, and will support local wildlife like birds and insects. Having more native vegetation will help to preserve your region's natural biodiversity.

Understand the different ways you can increase the native vegetation at your setting, and identify those that best fit your setting's site, budget and capacity for upkeep.

To get started, it can be helpful to use the results of your biodiversity assessment site survey to understand your setting's environment. This will help you to identify plants that are particularly beneficial to the biodiversity at your setting, as well as any areas for improvement.

For larger settings, or those with lots of outdoor space, you may already have a land management plan. This should be reviewed and updated to reflect any planned improvements.

This step provides the foundation for involving your children and young people in any planting initiatives, creating a fantastic learning opportunity across both formal and informal learning.

Create a list to save actions and resources, or make a plan for your setting.
