Ensure long term budget to support your setting's decarbonisation
Earmark a portion of your setting's budget every year to go towards ongoing decarbonisation initiatives. It can help to use your costed decarbonisation plan to determine the appropriate budget. For instance, the ringfenced budget could be to support active projects, to progress new projects or to enable longer term projects that require more capital.
It may be helpful to develop a proposal detailing the projects that will be supported by the budget, and the rationale behind them, which will help you to gain your senior leadership's approval. You can use your costed decarbonisation plan to create this.
Taking this step may feel challenging given wider budget pressures, but no amount of budget is insignificant. Speaking to peer networks or external organisations that you already collaborate with may help to develop your case or explore new opportunities.
