Develop a plan for net zero

Develop a detailed delivery plan for how your setting will reduce its carbon emissions to net zero, informed by your decarbonisation strategy. Decide on the interventions you will take and prioritise them, ensuring that key members of staff who will be responsible are involved in your planning process. Create progressive targets to reduce your emissions to zero over time.

It’s important that your net zero plan forms part of your wider climate action plan, to ensure that resources and budget can be properly allocated. This approach will also help you to identify any dependencies and inefficiencies between your decarbonisation activity and other aspects of your climate action plan.

In some instances, your ability to access funding and grants may be dependent on having a net zero plan in place.

Once you have developed your net zero plan, you should seek buy-in from your senior leadership. Remember to share your plan with any relevant people within your community, and review and update your plan regularly, so that risks and issues can be quickly identified.
