Select a baseline reporting year

Choosing the right baseline year is crucial for effective carbon management. This year will act as a reference to track and compare your future carbon footprint measurements, helping you to monitor progress towards your net zero goal.

It should be a year that reflects your setting's typical operations, so it can serve as a solid foundation for future improvements. It is important you identify the most appropriate year for your setting. It can be helpful to have calculated your carbon footprint for a few previous years using historical data, to help you make the best choice.

This approach is vital for setting realistic targets to help you on your journey to net zero, and accurately measuring the effectiveness of your decarbonisation projects.
