Setting the groundwork

For settings that want to know where to begin

Agree the roles and responsibilities you'll need to make progress in sustainability. Raise awareness of the importance of this work among your staff, learners and community, so they want to get involved.

You'll need to understand constraints, such as land use restrictions at your estate, that might affect your options going forward. It's also helpful to understand the funding and support that's available to you.

Work towards a sustainability vision

Sustainability fundamentals

Understand your setting's current situation, the data available, and the way your community feels about sustainability. This will help you set your first sustainability vision and identify priorities.

You've set yourself up for success and you're ready to take the first steps. Ensuring you have a small budget, buy-in from leadership, and a committed team will help you move forward.
