Part of Let’s Go Zero, Climate Action Advisors are independent experts who offer free support for schools, colleges, and nurseries across England.

Develop sustainable travel incentives for staff

Look at how you can encourage your staff to use sustainable travel to and from your setting, with rewards or benefits for choosing to walk, cycle, use public transport, electric vehicles or carpool.

Examples include subsidised public transport passes, cycle to work schemes, access to wellness perks, free bike maintenance, mileage reimbursement, subsidised charging, or even extra time off.

Use the results of your regular travel survey and seek input from your staff when selecting the most appropriate incentives for your setting. Involving your staff in the selection process will help to ensure the best chance of success, leading to a greater impact on your travel-related carbon and greenhouse gas emissions

This is an opportunity to improve employee health and well-being, while reducing your environmental impact. It fosters a positive workplace culture, boosts morale, and can help with staff retention.
