  • Topic

Actions and resources relevant to your community’s other priorities or interests.

    Biodiversity

Improve your setting’s green spaces and local environment to help the planet and encourage learners to spend time in nature.

    Climate adaptation

Prepare your setting for extreme weather events such as flooding and heatwaves - these will become more common in future due to climate change.

    Climate education and green skills

Help your learners become aware of sustainability and prepared for climate careers. Feed your sustainability progress into teaching and learning.

    Energy

Heating, electricity and other systems create emissions that contribute to climate change. These actions look at how to reduce emissions and reach Net Zero.

    Estates and buildings

Your buildings and grounds are key to reducing emissions, promoting biodiversity and becoming more resilient to climate change.

    Food and catering

From planning a healthy menu to composting your waste, your food services can make a big difference to your emissions and your community.

    Funding

Exploring funding opportunities is key to making progress in sustainability, and can save your setting money.

    Planning and monitoring

Strategies, visions and policies will help you set a direction on your sustainability journey. You’ll also use data to track your progress and set targets.

    Procurement

These are actions you can take to review and improve the way your setting purchases goods and services. Using greener suppliers will help you reach Net Zero.

    Travel

Car or bus, walking or cycling. The methods your staff and learners use to get to and from your setting have an important impact on your emissions.

    Waste

The resources we discard can affect the environment, whether it’s water down the drain or old uniforms going to landfill. These actions will help reduce waste.

    Wellbeing

Young people are increasingly affected by climate anxiety. Improving your outdoor learning spaces can help address this anxiety and other mental health issues.
